💡 What is Mietstufe?

Mietstufe is a classification of cities by rent level (I = cheapest, VII = most expensive). Hamburg = Mietstufe VI, Munich = VII, Berlin = IV, smaller cities = I-III. The higher the Mietstufe, the higher the recognized rent and potentially higher Wohngeld.

📋 How to apply?

You submit the Wohngeld application to the Wohnungsamt or Wohngeldstelle in your city. In Hamburg: Bezirksamt, Fachamt für Grundsicherung und Soziales. You need: ID, rental contract, proof of income, Meldebescheinigung.
