Biometric passport photos (current, 35×45mm) Required

Biometrisches Passfoto

Photo booth at Bürgeramt or professional photographer. Biometric requirements: front-facing, neutral expression, light background. Not older than 6 months. Cost: approx. 6-15€.

Birth certificate or certificate of descent Required

Geburtsurkunde / Standesamt

Apply at the registry office (Standesamt) of your birthplace if you don't have it. For births abroad: re-registration required. Cost: approx. 12€.

Old Reisepass / Personalausweis (if available) Required

Reisepass / Personalausweis

Will be confiscated or invalidated when applying. If lost: file a police report.

Pay fees (Reisepass from 70€, Perso from 37€) Required

Passgebühren

Reisepass: 70€ (age 24+), 37.50€ (under 24). Personalausweis: 37€ (age 24+), 22.80€ (under 24). Express passport: +32€ (approx. 3 business days). Payment in cash or EC card.

Collect passport (approx. 3-6 weeks processing time) Required

Passabholung / Bearbeitungszeit

PIN letter arrives separately by mail (for online identification function). Passport must be collected in person. You'll receive notification by mail or can check status online.
