What is it?

Deutschlandticket (previously "49-Euro-Ticket") is a monthly subscription (Abo) for all public local transport (ÖPNV) in Germany. From January 1, 2026 it costs €63 per month (an increase of €5 compared to 2025). From 2027 onwards, the price will be adjusted according to a cost index.

What's included?

✅ All buses, trams, U-Bahn, S-Bahn
✅ All regional trains (RE, RB, IRE) — 2nd class
✅ Across all of Germany — no tariff boundaries

❌ NOT included: long-distance trains (ICE, IC, EC), 1st class, Flixbus/Flixtrain. Bicycle transport and taking other passengers — only if the local Verkehrsverbund permits it (rules vary by region).

  • Jobticket: employer contributes minimum 25%; if you have an employment contract, ask HR. Also often offered with Minijob.
  • Semesterticket: many students already have it included in their fees — check before buying separately.
  • Sozialticket: some cities offer discounts for low-income residents / those on Bürgergeld — check locally.

Where to buy and how to cancel?

  • Apps: DB Navigator, HVV, MVV, BVG and other local apps
  • Online: deutschlandticket.de or bahn.de
  • This is a subscription — cancellation by the 10th of the month ends it at the end of that month

For whom is it worth it?

  • Commuters: already pays off from around 2 journeys per day
  • Weekend travelers: trips by regional trains across all of Germany (e.g. Hamburg → Berlin RE, ~4.5 hours)
  • The ticket is personal — not transferable
