Electricity, Gas, and Internet — Choose Providers and Save

Status: March 2026. All information without guarantee.

Electricity and Gas

Grundversorger vs. Alternative Providers

If you don't choose a provider, you'll automatically be assigned to the Grundversorger (default supplier) in your city — this is almost always the most expensive option. You can switch at any time!

Average Costs 2026

Energy 1 Person 2 Persons 4 Persons
Electricity ~45 €/month ~65 €/month ~100 €/month
Gas (Heating) ~50 €/month ~80 €/month ~130 €/month

How to Switch Providers

  1. Use a comparison portal: Check24.de, Verivox.de
  2. Select the cheapest tariff (warning: bonus rates become more expensive in year 2!)
  3. Register online — the new provider will cancel your old contract for you
  4. Duration: 2–6 weeks, supply is never interrupted

Electricity/Gas Tips

  • First move-in: Read your meter and contact the Grundversorger, then initiate a provider switch immediately
  • Switch annually for maximum savings (new customer bonuses)
  • Green electricity is often only slightly more expensive than conventional electricity

Internet
