Did you buy a car in Germany?
You have 14 days to register it after purchase.
Where to register?
Zulassungsstelle — vehicle registration office in your city.
Find it: Google "Zulassungsstelle [city]"
What documents do you need?
For a used car from Germany:
- ID/Passport + Anmeldung (registration certificate)
- Fahrzeugbrief (Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil II) — from the seller
- Fahrzeugschein (Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil I) — from the seller
- Purchase contract or invoice
- eVB-Nummer — insurance code (see below)
- Valid TÜV/HU inspection (or get a new one)
- SEPA-Lastschrift for vehicle tax (Kfz-Steuer)
For a car from abroad (e.g., Poland):
- Everything above PLUS:
- Foreign registration certificate
- Certificate of Conformity (COC) or technical inspection
- Sometimes: customs clearance (from outside EU)
eVB-Nummer — Insurance Code
FIRST buy liability insurance (Kfz-Haftpflichtversicherung).

Your insurer will give you a 7-digit eVB code — you cannot register without it.

Kfz-Steuer — Vehicle Tax
Depends on:
- Engine displacement
- CO2 emissions
- Fuel type
You pay annually via Lastschrift (automatic debit).
Important documents after registration:
- Fahrzeugschein (Teil I) — always keep in your car!
- Fahrzeugbrief (Teil II) — store at home (proof of ownership)

- Driving without registration = fine + towing
