Bildung und Teilhabe (BuT) — Educational Package

What is it?

BuT is money for education and activities for children from low-income families.

Who can get it?

Families that receive:
- Bürgergeld
- Wohngeld
- Kinderzuschlag
- Asylbewerberleistungen
- Sozialhilfe

What does the BuT package include?

1. School Supplies (Schulbedarf)

  • €195/year (€130 in August + €65 in February)
  • Automatic if you receive Bürgergeld

2. School Meals (Mittagessen)

  • Free meals at school/Kita
  • You must submit an application

3. School Trips (Ausflüge)

  • Full reimbursement of costs
  • Day trips and multi-day trips

4. School Transportation (Schülerbeförderung)

  • Public transport ticket
  • If school is far away

5. Tutoring (Lernförderung)

  • When your child is falling behind in school
  • Requires a certificate from the teacher

6. Extracurricular Activities (Teilhabe)

  • €15/month for sports, music, culture
  • Football club, music school, etc.

How to apply?

  1. Where:
  2. Jobcenter (if Bürgergeld)
  3. Rathaus/Sozialamt (if Wohngeld/Kinderzuschlag)

  4. Form: Antrag auf Leistungen für Bildung und Teilhabe

  5. Documents:

  6. Proof that you receive Bürgergeld/Wohngeld/Kinderzuschlag
  7. School certificate (for trips, tutoring)
  8. Confirmation of registration for activities (for Teilhabe)
